Seeking a talented photojournalist Posted on: 09/03/2010 10:47 AM

The Greenwood (S.C.) Index-Journal, a growing 15,000-circulation daily, is looking for a talented and energetic photojournalist to join its team. We're looking for somebody who understands local news matter and can convey that through compelling photos. The person hired will be expected to work days, nights and weekends, covering breaking news, sports and a plethora of other assignments. As the lone full-time photographer, the person hired will be our go-to person for centerpieces in news, features and sports. The Index-Journal is a 15,000-circulation, family-owned daily newspaper in a beautiful section of South Carolina. Yes, we're a small daily newspaper, but we want to think big. We want to challenge the regular parameters attached to small papers and eschew the new way of thinking - smaller staff, less content, lower quality. We firmly believe the best way for a newspaper to succeed in this economic climate is to produce the best product possible. Period. We're looking for a photojournalist who understands how to tell a story visually. The person hired must be able to write clean, proficient cutlines in AP style and also be able to communicate with staff members (writers and editors) on photo concepts for the newspaper. The photographer hired will also be active on our website, posting galleries and slideshows. We want somebody who is a team player and wants to help us achieve our goal of being the best small daily newspaper in the country. This is the ideal job for somebody fresh out of college or a talented journalist looking to make the move up from a weekly, and proven veterans looking to relocate to a charming Southern town are welcome to apply, as well. Send rsum, cover letter, photo examples (or a link to a website) and references (via regular mail or e-mail) to: Scott J. Bryan Associate Editor P.O. Box 1018 Greenwood, SC 29648 SBryan@indexjournal.com. No phone calls please.
